10 things every Beginner English student should focus on when first learning English

When first learning English Conversation,

Beginner students should focus on the following areas:

  1. Greetings and farewells, such as "Hello," "Goodbye," and "Nice to meet you."

  2. Basic social expressions, such as "Please," "Thank you," and "Excuse me."

  3. Questions and answers, including common question words like "Who," "What," "Where," "When," "Why," and "How."

  4. Introducing oneself and others, including asking for and giving personal information such as name, occupation, and hometown.

  5. Describing objects, people, and places, using adjectives and descriptive phrases.

  6. Expressing opinions and preferences, using expressions like "I think," "I like," and "I don't like."

  7. Expressing agreement and disagreement, using expressions like "Yes," "No," "I agree," and "I disagree."

  8. Making suggestions and requests, using expressions like "Can I ask you to...?" and "Would you mind...?"

  9. Responding to compliments, using expressions like "Thank you" and "That's very kind of you."

  10. Handling basic conversational topics, such as hobbies, travel, and weather.

These topics form the foundation for further conversation and will help students communicate effectively in English.


In terms of Grammar:


  1. Basic grammar rules, such as verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure.

  2. Vocabulary building, starting with common, everyday words and phrases.

  3. Pronunciation, focusing on the sounds and rhythm of the English language.

  4. Listening skills, including understanding native English speakers and following conversations.

  5. Speaking skills, including correct use of words, pronunciation, and speaking clearly and fluently.

  6. Reading comprehension, including understanding the meaning of words and sentences in context.
