Many of my English students feel nervous using English, even after learning it in school for many years. Perhaps this is because in school they felt the pressure of tests and maybe stress from teachers or parents to get high scores. However, this is not a fair or natural way to learn any language.
The key to learn to learning English is to enjoy the process, relax, and feel comfortable. This is my number one target for any student, to help make them feel more at ease with learning and experiencing English. When students become more relaxed, their minds open up more and the learning becomes more experience based rather than theory based.
Many of my students have surprised themselves with improved test scores just by becoming more comfortable and confident with the language. It's connected to psychology, the subconscious mind, and how language acquisition actually works, but instead of discussing all of these in detail, I'll just simply say, "Do whatever you can to enjoy the learning process. Tell stories and jokes. Make mistakes. And in your free time, do enjoyable activities in English such as watching videos or movies in English (with English subtitles), listen to music with English lyrics, or read comic books in English."
So, have fun and I look forward to practicing with you some time in the near future.
Thats actually a very good point you make and one I've noticed first hand in my online classes as well.
